Friday gave a tour to around 35 people for the Junior Spring Preview Day. It went alright, it was kind of unfortunate circumstances for giving a first tour, it was SO busy, there were 7 tours that went out at the same time. We had 535+ families on campus which was slightly ridiculous. Friday after dinner went to the IV meeting. A few of us wandered back and found Jack Swift (local band) playing on greek lawn but it was kind of chilly and only half of us had sweatshirts so we ended up just coming back.

Last night Ash and I drove over to Rush Henrietta High School for the 32nd Annual RIT Spring Juggle-In. It's a 3 day event hosted by a number of organizations including Student Government, the RIT juggling club and the University of Rochester Strong Jugglers. I can't juggle to save my life but it's really cool to watch other people do it. During the day in the Clark Gym on campus they have different activities and workshops and then last night was a show put on by people who have been training for anywhere between 3 and 12 years. It was definitely worth checking out.

This morning went to church with a bunch of people. They brought a LIVE goat on stage! I think it's one of those, you had to be there moments but it was pretty funny. Came back around noon, brought back some breakfast from Gracie's and started on homework.

apparently i have a thing for green foods. i've been pretty much living off of honeydew, salad, soy beans and broccoli lately. yum! too bad pistachios have been recalled...

ashley and i are watching the sabres redwings hockey game instead of doing homework... we're such good students. just kidding! i got a lot of homework done this weekend and i only had one class today so i don't have an overwhelming load of things to do.

it's supposed to snow again tonight. and tomorrow. and wednesday. gross. where'd spring go? i'm sick of the worms especially because no one believes me that worms smell disgusting!!!

turned in another application for housing today... hopefully we'll get something. i'm not sure if i've mentioned anything before but ashley and i are in "temporary housing" in a hotel next year... and it's 4 miles off campus... not the ideal situation.

here's some pictures from the reliquary project. they aren't very good because the lighting was yucky hopefully ill get some better ones when i get it back in a few weeks. it's a 6 by 6 inch wooden box with designs on three of the sides and a letter on the inside. we were supposed to pick something that was special to us and create a "reliquary" for it. i think it looks better in person but oh well. it was pretty fun to make :)

all good things come to an end

just got back to rochester from a weeklong spring break at home! ashley was able to come home with me too so I got to show her all of the exciting things to see in maryland and dc. ironically the day we flew home from rochester was the beginning of the biggest snowstorm maryland has had in three years (only 6 inches of snow) but still funny-- or annoying. eventually it warmed up and we were able to have 75 degree weather today!! too bad when we landed in rochester today it was 38 degrees, foggy and rainy. oh well. 

this week included: two separate trips to chipotle, a Caps game at the verizon center with Amanda!, a day full of wandering around DC, a second trip to DC with dad, seeing jimmy (Alison's new adorable dog), visiting with Barb, Joe and Eric this weekend, mini golf and batting cages yesterday, Sarah's volleyball tournament this morning and other various fun things.

tomorrow is the first day of spring quarter which means... new classes! i actually only have one class tomorrow so it shouldn't be too bad. class 9-12, work 12-4. 

life feels good

i got stopped in the elevator today by someone i only kind of know who said "i hope this doesn't come off as creepy but i saw your pictures on facebook and it looks like you guys such cool stuff i'm really jealous i wish we could be friends" haha! 

yesterday ashley and i went on adventure to the end of nowhere. this week is pretty much do what you want, when you want so i woke up around 12:30(!), went to lunch and then we headed out to the car for our adventure. the stipulations of this "Grand Day Out" were that we were going to stop, turn or look at anything in our path that was cool and we would do everything without a map, gps, tracking device, sundial, compass, etc. we drove through downtown, stopped around at high falls, somehow ended up in charlotte, greece and ogden and the beach!! honestly, we don't really know which roads we took but we made it back in one piece with no maps! we fully intend on going on the adventure again, except next time to pittsford and fairport.

Rochester Adventures

tonight is greys anatomy, tomorrow is a hockey game, saturday is a hockey game then home on sunday! oh yeah, and we moved our room around again!! pictures to come later, for now i need to go get my laundry before someone steals it-- there has been a run on machines today.... 

i feel icky

my allergies have decided to explode this week which has resulted in a yucky feeling me. it started out last friday when i felt a little funny and had a headache. since then every morning that i wake up (which is every morning :P) i feel progressively worse. it's wonderful!... not. i won't go into details of anything but basically it feels like someone has put wine corks in all of my airways and ears and then stuffed cotton balls in. it's a really great feeling that your head is going to explode. 

in non-gross news, i've been enjoying spring break week one here in rochester. we technically have finals this week but my artistic lifestyle just doesn't believe in those things so i get to relax. for all art classes we had "finals" last week which consisted of final projects and an in class critique. i've just been hanging around mostly, i'm currently working on a flash movie but it's teaching myself how to use it and making it at the same time so i can't promise any spectacular results. yesterday i ended up going to the gym at 8 in the morning. it was so cool to be working out and see a blizzard completely surrounding the building.. cools ya down :) after the gym i went out to lunch with dave and ashley before going to work. ended up working 2 hours longer than i thought because of all of the mail coming in but thats okay it means i dont have to go in today. yesterday after work ashley and i decided to go out to dinner to red robin! and see twilight at the dollar movie theater :) 

It's All Your Fault!

This week is the first time since I was 10 that a democrat has been in office and so far the only change I've noticed is the 5 foot snowpile that was dumped in the path on which I walk to class. But, I don't think that Obama had anything to do with that so I'll give him a break :)

It's been busy busy around here like always. It's been snowing constantly and then all of a sudden yesterday it got up to 40... springtime?? Two hours later a cold front blew through so we're back down to the 7 degrees where we belong.



I've been watching a TON of hockey. Two hockey games last weekend (already mentioned in posts below). Then on Thursday Ashley and I along with two of our friends left at 5 pm and drove an hour and a half to Buffalo to see the Tigers play! They won 5 -2 against the golden griffins -- ugliest mascot ever. A lot of the corner crew from RIT was there so there was lots and lots of cheering.. there were actually more RIT fans there than the other team and they kind of sucked at cheering. I do believe at one point the announcer threatened to kick us out for being obnoxious. Whoops. "It's all your fault... It's all your fault.." We got rather lost on the ride back but on the plus side we found the sketchy part of town! Not that we were looking for it ;) Eventually found the right road and we back it back around 11. Worked for a few hours Friday morning and then went to a minor and concentration fair with Ashley to figure out what the heck we want to do. After that we met up with the boys and went to lunch at Gracies. We decided a while back that we really needed orange jeans to wear to all of the games so we finally drove over to the mall to look. Unfortunately Rochester does not seem to like the color orange because there is NOTHING. Oh well, still walked around and just looked at stuff. Drove back and raced to get dinner before the Women's Hockey game at 7. We literally ate dinner while running down the quarter mile-- it would have made the best movie ever because it was so windy and really hard to eat while walking really fast. Made it to the game and luckily all the guys had gone ahead and saved us seats. The game was pretty good but no where near as fun as the men's games. They did go into over time which has never happened before. Sudden death in overtime when they're tied 1 to 1 is rather exciting. Walked back and we all hung out in our room for a while. The guys decided to go back to try to go to sleep because they have a LAN party tomorrow-- yeah, what losers :) Just kidding! Somehow we ended up going over to their floor after that and chilling in the hall until 3 am. Their floor is all male so since we're both girls (obviously...) everyone started coming out of their room going "omg girls!!" It was kind of amusing. Eventually went to bed and now i'm sitting here annoying Ashley because I'm typing this up and not going to eat lunch with her!!! Guess I should get out of the chair and go before she throws things at me =)

It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time

Well, class registration starts in about 3 hours. Or we have to get up then anyway, but as you can see I haven't even gone to bed yet so it's going to be a rather short night =) We might actually never get around to the whole sleeping thing. Oh well. 

Today was disgusting. It was raining/freezing rain/snowing all day and really, really cold with big gusts of wind. Not that i'm complaining... but I did step in a giant puddle of cold water on the way back from my 6-9pm class. Yuck. Did some painting to finish up my 2d project, went to dinner with Drake at the dining commons and then we've mostly just been hanging around here being goofy on our floor. Ashley has officially gone insane tonight.. she's been dancing around and talking in weird accents all night =) 

Just went outside for the heck of it, I had to take a few pictures for my 3d class and then we just ran around and frolicked. 

Brick City Homecoming

This weekend was Brick City Homecoming, RIT's fall event when a lot of parents, families and alumni come to visit for the first time. My parents came up on Thursday afternoon; it was really nice to see them after being away from home for so long. Fortunately, amidst all of our rainy-rochester weather, it was an unusually beautiful weekend. 

Thursday afternoon my class was cancelled so I met up with my mom, dad and Sarah for dinner before my 6pm class. Had an ice cream party at 9pm, Ash and I have been saving up ice cream from gracie's over the past week or so :) Andrew and Drake stopped by too as well as a couple people from down the hall.

Friday morning I had class from 12 until 4. After class my parents took me out shopping to get some art supplies and more winter clothes-- thanks guys! Also stopped at Wegmans, of course, for some food items. Drove into downtown Rochester afterwards to get some dinner from a cool pizza place. Sarah stayed in the dorms with me all weekend and thanks to some idiots on the 9th floor.. I was able to give her the full college experience. Around 2 am Friday night/Saturday morning the fire alarm went off... there ended up being an actual fire on the 9th floor (with smoke coming out the window and everything..) so we were outside until nearly 3 am... Sarah only had boxers and a sweatshirt on..  Welcome to RIT :)

Saturday morning we woke up and Sarah, Ash and I went and got smoothies and muffins from Beanz, a coffeeshop on campus. Met up with my parents before heading off to see Bill Nye the Science guy. After Bill, we went to see a concert on campus with a bunch of a cappella groups.. yay eight beat measure! 

This morning we woke up and went to breakfast with my parents at "Jay's Diner" before they headed back down the road to maryland. It was a pretty awesome weekend, however, now I have an overwhelming load of homework to do before Ashley and I go to a concert tonight. 

Busy Beaver

It's been one full weekend.. and it's only 8:00pm on Saturday. Friday night after classes Ashley and I went over to Gracie's and picked up waffles for Wonderful Waffle Wednesday! We came back and watched two episodes of the OC until Ashley fell asleep and I had to throw a cow at her. Worked on some homework in the lounge. I didn't want to paint in our room because it gets too messy. I'm working on this project for 2d design. We had to come up with a recognizable object and then make a pattern with it.. I chose pretzels because they're yummy. I think it turned out pretty neat? It looks a little funny on the computer.


After a few hours of homework we watched the last two episodes of the OC! We finished season one, yay! That took forever, there was never enough free time to fit a whole episode in. Went to bed around 3 after talking for a while. This morning I set my alarm for 10 am although i guess I kept pushing snooze because next thing I knew it was noon and my phone was ringing. Turns out it was Nicole.. she's from Columbia too and her family was up here for the RIT Open House. She's looking at the school for graphic design too so I said I'd meet up with her and show her around. Kicked Ashley out of bed and we got ready in 10 minutes or less and made it over to Gracie's to meet up with them. After lunch we came back here and I worked on some more homework until Nicole was done with her portfolio review and then I could show her around the dorm rooms and such. Went to dinner with Ashley at 5 and then Drake came in here and bugged us so much that we told him we'd hang out.. just kidding, we wanted to :) Walked over to Park Point for an outdoor concert they have going on. It was pretty decent, the music wasn't that good but it's really nice outside so it didn't much matter. All of the restaurants are finally open so people were giving out lots of free stuff, yay again! Met up with some of Drake's friends from elementary school back in St. Louis and hung around. Walked back and now we're waiting until 9 for Drake to come back and come to a comedy show at Ingle Auditorium with us. Tomorrow is homework, homework, homework. I have 240 gesture drawings to finish by Tuesday as well as another project for 3d and a paper for writing. Tomorrow night there is an ice cream social in the Sol activity room, wherever that is. It's one busyyy weekend!

Yay Weekends!

This weekend was pretty relaxing. Spent most of yesterday working on my 2d project-- lots and lots of gluing. Too bad I forgot that rubber cement has latex in it and i'm allergic to latex.. that was interesting. Went to quiznos for dinner last night with Ashley around 9 because I guess we were such good kids doing homework and we forgot to go to dinner. Yeah, the dining hall closes at 7 here. How stupid. Anyway, worked some more on projects and then two of the guys from next door came over and watched 60 minutes on our tv so I stopped to watch it since it was an interview with Obama. Later I went and watched some really dumb show with Drake called Stella. He tried to convince me it is better that gilmore girls (which he says is a biohazard...)... I don't think so. Worked for a few more hours and then hung out with Ashley and watched the OC until around 3:30. I love weekends! 

It's been a rather relaxing morning. Woke up at 9 to get ready for my noon class (had some printing and gluing to do) only to find out that it was canceled! Yay! I'm not exactly sure why, but we got an email around 10 saying that it was not going to be held today so I've been wandering around getting stuff done until it's time for my 2pm class. Re-organized all of my drawers/closet so that my clothes were easier to find. Finished up my project for 2d, worked a little on the tinfoil (due tomorrow), caught up on emails, and put up more pictures on my wall. It's kind of nice to have an unexpected relaxing morning since I finished most of my homework this weekend. 

Got a few more things to do and then i'm going to head over to building 7 to pick up some things before 2d.

Morning Wake Up Call

It's day four of classes, two weeks into this whole college thing and I have not once slept through my alarm. Go me! 

Of course, I have had a little help from the NOISY CONSTRUCTION OUTSIDE OUR WINDOW. Who knows what they are even doing out there, I just hope it doesn't cause a giant sink hole outside of our dorm. It's been going on since about 8 am this morning and I was just a tad annoyed because I don't have class until 2 pm. Luckily due to my amazing sleeping abilities (thanks dad!)  I was able to fall back asleep until 9:45. Woke up, took a shower, got a package from home! (cookiesss, mmmmm) and then went out to lunch with Ashley.  We even had something other than salad for lunch... a wrap! Which I guess for me is technically just salad in a tortilla but oh well it was very tasty. Now i'm just waiting around until 1:30 to walk over to class. I finished all of my homework last night like a good kid so I just get to hang out today! Yay. Two classes today, both 3 hours so I won't get back here until 9pm but i'm looking forward to drawing today so I don't mind it's such a long class.

Had class yesterday until 5 pm and then met up with Ashley for dinner at 6:30 after her class. We've taken to eating outside on this giant concrete thing (which i've posted a picture of before). We're trying to take advantage of this really nice weather before it becomes too cold to eat outside. It's 72 degrees outside today, so nice. After dinner Ashley was kind enough to drive me to the art store (for the second time this week) so I could get supplies for classes. Unfortunately the bus system does not reach the art store so I'm lucky enough to have a super awesome roommate with a car. 

Let's see what's happened since I last posted... I switched out of one of my classes because it was way too easy. I actually just switched to the same class but with a different professor who seems really good and pushes us a lot more. Went to Walmart on a shopping run with Ashley to buy animal crackers and other things we needed. I had a professor for the first time that made me realize why I came to RIT in the first place. He's seriously amazing, tough but good. I'd rather be pushed than learn nothing and get easy As. Went out for pizza with Ashley and Andrew on Tuesday after my 9 pm class.. it was a nice change of pace from salad. 

Yay! Tomorrow is Friday. Unlike everyone else on my floor, I have class tomorrow but I'm actually looking forward to them. I haven't had raster imagining yet so I'm thinking that's going to be a good class. Plus for my creative sources class my drawing professor is coming in and showing all of his work so that'll be pretty sweet. Not really sure of any plans for this weekend. We're having waffles tomorrow for dinner which is exciting-- Ashley and I have declared Friday to be waffle friday. Got a project and two papers to do this weekend. There are also a couple of greek events going on around campus on Saturday so we might check those out. I think there might even be a lazy river/hot tub run. 

Tunnel Adventures

Tonight Ashley and I went on an adventure in the tunnels that connect all of the residence halls. Our original plan was to just go check out where our mailboxes were for future reference but we ended up running up and down the tunnels creating havoic.
The tunnels connect all of the dorms to each other. There is a corner store down there as well as a post office, laundry rooms, a game room, fast food type place called Sol's and lots and lots of paintings on the walls. I think that's the neatest thing about the tunnels is being able to look at all of the different paintings from different clubs and organizations at RIT, it makes them a little less grim.

I thought the sky was exceptionally pretty tonight. In our tunnel hunt we ended up coming out at the NTID buildings (national technical institute for the deaf) which are really amazing. I'd never seen them before but they look brand new and have really awesome places to sit and read. Plus the advantage of it being in the NTID section is that it is abnormally quiet so it might turn out to be an excellent place to study.

After our adventure we just hung out in our room/on our floor some more until I got a call from my friend requesting technical support. That's one of the things I really do love about college life so far is that if someone wants to meet up with you or asks for help you're literally a 10 minute or less walk away. I ended up going over and helping her set up her new laptop and such. Came back to the room to hang out some more before the WOW event. This third year guy at RIT that Ashley met at College and Careers last summer ended up coming over for a while to hang out too. The magician was pretty good, it's really overwhelming the number of activities they have on campus this week. Each night there is a main WOW (week of welcome) event as well as ice skating, rock climbing, sign language classes, and concerts at the coffee shops and they're unfortunately all at the same time which means we really have to pick. Every night so far has been pretty good though. 

"You're a HEART major?"

Woke up at 7:30 this morning for yet another OA meeting. Basically spent all day in the school of design learning where everything was and such. Had a discussion group on a book we all read over the summer which was really not as bad as a feared. It kind of got me in the mood to start classes. I got to meet my academic advisor and ask questions about classes.  Hung around with a bunch of people on my floor this afternoon. Took a nap (finally! i'm so exhausted from this week and it's only Wednesday morning...). Went to dinner at Gracie's with some more people from my floor. Had a floor meeting in the tunnels which basically consisted of them telling us to be careful and respect our roommate. Ashley and I were originally planning on heading over to this sign language class at 10 but then we ended up meeting up with some other people and going to the concert at the Gordon Field house. Except, that was a mistake. I REALLY wish I had had my camera at that particular moment because there were about 20 people at the concert in this huge place. It was kind of sad and pathetic so we left after 5 minutes. The two of us went up and visited some friends on the floor above us and decided to watch a movie. We saw 300, which is not exactly a chick flick.. not that I was expecting that but still, it was kind of gross. Hung around for a while up there and talked. These guys are in a quad and have an amazing sound system/tv thing so it's fun to go up there and watch stuff. Now it's a little past 2 am and I have to wake up at 7 so I should probably go to bed soon. 

Oh yeah, so funny story. Tonight I was really tired and we were talking to one of the guys we were hanging out with & talking about majors. When I said I was an art major he thought I said HEART major and was like "wow you're going to be up really late you're going to have to get used to getting paged at 4 in the morning and carrying a beeper around with you all of the time " haha at least I thought it was funny maybe that's just because it's so late and i'm delirious :)
