epic trailer
this trailer has received a ridiculous amount of hype, but it's well worth it. really an amazing job. the song in it is wake up by arcade fire, in case you wanted to know.
it'll be released october 2009.
109
so i've had class today since 9 am, without breaks which is kind of lovely except not. luckily we got out of the last class early so now i have 10 minutes before I have to leave to go to work until 8 pm tonight!
got our philosophy tests back today.. i got an 109 out of 100 :) i'm pretty happy about that because first of all i hate taking tests and second of all it's worth 25% of our final grade.
had two critiques today in drawing and elements of gd. they went pretty well. i'm almost finished with my drawing which is a really, really good thing! got some more work to do on elements but at least i'm headed in the right direction. lots of homework and other nonsense to do tonight. it's 47 degrees out right now!
sorry for the ADD post, only had a few minutes!

projects, pancakes & purple ponies
projects: i have a lot of them. i spent eleven straight hours yesterday working on homework. okay, straight meaning a quick phone call with mom and dad as well as a short break for dinner. but seriously, that's a lot of work. i have a drawing due tomorrow as well as a project for elements. blech. slightly overwhelming. especially because i just found out today that it is week FOUR??!? and we're registering for fall classes. what the heck? where did this quarter go?
pancakes: went home with ashley this weekend to marathon, ny. it was quite exciting. drove down after class and work on friday, saw where her mom works, visited the waterfalls in ithaca, jumped on the trampoline and ate some delicious homemade mac & cheese! saturday morning we woke up early and drove into town for the maple festival. it was SO nice... 71 degrees. which was actually a tad too hot for me, but it was okay anyway. walked around town looking and everything. met up with one of her friends from high school who actually spent a few nights here at RIT a few weeks ago so that was fun. ended up going back to her house for a bit because the train was too full. drove into binghamton to walk around the mall and then... went to a hockey game!! the rochester amerks were playing the binghamton senators... very good game. unfortunately the amerks lost but it went into overtime as well as a shoot out which never happened here.
purple ponies: i don't really have anything to say about purple ponies, i just couldn't think of anything else important that started with "p" it may not start with the letter p... but i used powertools today! and i still have all of my fingers and toes! we're working on a project for 3d that requires wood and such so i learned how to use the bandsaw. it's actually quite fun and now i'm turning into a woodcutting fool.

in other thing...it freaking snowed today. i guess it's still march, i shouldn't be too surprised. but seriously? 71 degrees and then SNOW...

bak:
http://www.bakmagazine.com/index.php?sayfa=index&language=en
seriously worth checking out, it's a design magazine that runs on your computer just like an application. if you go to the site on the bottom left it says "mac or pc" and click on one of those. it's so, so cool in terms of graphic design.
ben showed me in class this morning and i just thought i'd pass it on.
it's written half in russian half in english just so you know. and some of the images are rather...graphic? just think of it as art guys, it's cool.

we're all a bit confused
i just realized that i have not really been updating lately. i can't really promise anything with this one either because i'm currently sitting at a really awkward angle on my bed which is making it difficult to type. you might ask why i'm not moving... i'm comfortable, that's why.
it's week three of spring quarter.. i think. days are going by quickly and weeks are going by slowly, if that is even possible. actually come to think of it, i don't even remember getting up this morning so i guess that feels like a long time ago too. i've been convinced all day that it is wednesday, which it sadly is not.
i'm surprisingly caught up on work. we're working on a 30 by 40 inch replica of a master drawing. i'm working on a piece by m.c. escher. in three d we're making reliquaries, still not entirely sure what i'm doing but that's what tomorrow is for. in elements of gd we're working on a three dimensional box project which is basically created a pattern using figure ground and all that that works both two and three dimensionally. it'd make more sense if you saw the final project-- which is due next tuesday. in philosophy we're reading plato's meno, test next class. it's a pretty interesting class to be taking in conjunction with psychology. speaking of that, we're on the "memory" chapter in psych. a test every class is a little brutal but it's alright. we take a test in the first part of it and then the professor lectures for the rest-- it's a four hour class on thursday nights. and finally in vector we're just learning the basics of illustrator.
i've had a fair amount of free time. weird, i know. i'm managing eight (or more) hours of sleep a night, eating my fruits and veggies, etc. even had time to watch an episode of the office tonight. i think i scared some people this weekend when they asked how much time i spend on homework, in class, or whatever. i added it up and it's 29 hours in class, between 12-16 hours working in admissions and about 4 hours of homework a night. it's seriously not that bad.
in other more long term things, i interviewed for a potential orientation position two weeks ago. it would mean coming back to school 2 weeks early for training and work. for this summer i'm considering coming back up to rochester for a few weeks to work in admissions-- which i don't believe i've told my parents yet so uhm... that's the plan! not the whole summer though, don't worry.
and because i have some weird need to write about hockey in every post, the caps lost tonight to the toronto maple leafs. the post earlier was a link to a story about a graduate from RIT that played hockey. he plays for the hershey bears and was recently called up to be on the roster for the washington caps. unfortunately even due to illness of other members of the caps, he didn't play but he did warm up. if he had played, he would become the first hockey player from RIT to play in the NHL. pretty cool, huh? caps lost 2-3.
We think therefore we are a bit confused
Promises we make we break to keep ourselves amused
Everybody sometimes feels like somebody's watching you
And it keeps us human
[human-big city rock]
lyrics aren't really for anything special, i just happen to be listening to that song right now.
this turned out a little longer than expected, sorry :)

tigers wrap it up
i'm back from DC. got back saturday night at 11:30 actually.
life is very busy. i'm still alive and kickin' just thought i'd let you know.
going to marathon, ny next weekend with ashley for the maple fest and an amerks hockey game!
the Tigers had a disappointing loss to Mercyhurst Friday night, last hockey game of the season. which means NO MORE until next october. no idea what i'm going to do. i miss it already!

two down, eight to go.
two down, eight to go could be referring to the number of weeks of spring quarter left, however, sadly for now it is not.
it is the number of uninjured fingers that i currently have.
last night i was reaching to grab my razor out of my nifty shower tote and wham, my finger starts bleeding. it was really nasty. i'll avoid details. anyway, got that taken care of with a bandaid and i was all set to go.
and then today in drawing we were setting up our easels and what not. i reached into my bag to search for my eraser and SLICE goes the finger. i had left my exacto blade in there with no cover or anything. nice going, me. this was like ten times worse than yesterday and my whole hand was disgusting. again, avoiding details. apparently my cuts don't like to clot so it bled for a good 20 or so minutes. especially nice because we had to work on a huge drawing (white paper) with charcoal and everything else messy. it was really lovely. fortunately, amanda worked as a lifeguard so she made me some huge paper towel bandaid nonsense which seemed to work pretty well.
yeahhhhhh, so i'll try to be more careful next time and hopefully keep my remaining fingers intact :)

a scone-less st. patty's day
Happy Saint Patrick's Day!!
hope you remembered to wear green so you didn't get pinched :)

in honor of this day, i'll use entirely green writing. i hope that's not a problem. it's ridiculously warm out today-- it got up to 60 i believe. amanda and i were walking from philosophy to drawing around 2 pm and just grinning from ear to ear. we never realized how wonderful warm sunny weather is, i think the winter makes you appreciate it so much more. i even saw some flowers sprouting today! of course, i did spend most of my time in windowless classrooms but my walk to and from them was so nice! unfortunately they are calling for snow on thursday, we'll see. hopefully not, i think i could get used to this nice weather.
as for this weekend, i'm headed down to DC for an accepted students panel at a hotel in bethesda i think? i was asked a month or two ago if i'd join two counselors as well as two other ambassadors to go down and speak to a group of accepted students. i don't remember if i talked about this in my blog before or not. but it's something that i went to last march when i was still deciding on a school. it gives people a chance to hear about college life directly from us without even coming to campus. we're driving down at 12:30 on Friday (after class 9-12) and then driving back saturday night. originally i was planning on just going home for saturday night through monday night but with current ticket prices and my homework load i dont think that i'm going to make it home at all :\ i'm kind of bummed, but it'll only be 10 more weeks and then i'll be home for the summer. i just have a giant drawing (30 by 40 inches) due on Tuesday as well as a few other projects and it's kind of hard to travel with those. I think it'll be easier on all ends to just skip it. i really wish i could though! :( basically i'm missing BOTH hockey games and seeing family this weekend. bummmerrr. oh well, that's life. gotta make choices sometimes.

HOCKEY!
http://www.ritathletics.com/news/2009/3/16/MHOCKEY_0316093649.aspx?path=mhock
we made the RIT athletics homepage!
TIGERS BEAT HOLY CROSS IN THREE GAMES!
I love hockey.
the end.
ps: in other things, i never knew how many people went to this school. guess 58 degree weather will bring everyone out!

9:16
so it's 9:16 on sunday morning... i've finished two loads of laundry, taken a shower, gotten dressed, and finished my psych reading/homework for the week. now I have to wait two more hours for everyone else to get up so we can go eat some breakfast :P
hockey last night was freaking awesome. they won 6-4 and played so much better than friday night (when they lost 3-5). unfortunately (well, fortunately for me) they have to play another game tonight and they MUST win or else they're out. three hockey games in one weekend!

big box
there is ridiculously loud, obnoxious music playing in the room next door... and has been playing for a good two hours. it's kind of annoying but i've managed to tune it out.
finished up with classes for the week today, i'm kind of exhausted. not exhausted enough to miss the HOCKEY game though :)

survival
i survived my long day! i had exactly 11.5 hours of classes today. 8-11, 12-2, 2-5 and 6-9:30 <--- the last one got out 20 minutes early!
i am, however, ridiculously exhausted so i just took a toasty shower, got in pjs and after i finish this blog i'm off to sleep.
tomorrow is class from 9-12, work until 2:30, then HOCKEY GAME! it's the quarterfinals so it's best of three (hopefully they'll win both Friday and Saturday). saturday i'm interviewing from 8 am until 12:30 for an OA (orientation assistant) position for next fall so i hope that goes well. after that is homework and hockey game number two! sunday's forecast looks like homework, homework, homework.
oh yeah, and i made it through the day with NO COFFEE.

rain means worms
spring quarter is off to a ridiculously good start. of course, it is day one at 3:30 pm and i've only had 1 hour of class and 4 hours of work so far. but regardless. work was a good four hours of stuffing envelopes which --no joke-- is my favorite thing to do there ever. met a new admissions ambassador who, as it turns out, is dating the starting goalie of the hockey team so i got to talk about hockey for two hours with someone who doesn't think i'm insane!
it's good to be back and see everyone. the tunnels were full last night of people meeting up for the first time since break. got settled back in, did a load of laundry, got some dinner stuffs. our dorm room feels surprisingly bigger than usual which is odd because ashley and i were sleeping in the basement which is ginormous. i guess that is a good thing though.
despite the weather button on my dashboard saying that it's 34 degrees, it feels really warm out and all i needed today was a fleece jacket. it is disgustingly smooshy outside though from all of the rain.
just waiting for ashley to get out of class now so we can go buy books for this quarter. the only homework tonight is to read 2 chapters in the psych book!

all good things come to an end
just got back to rochester from a weeklong spring break at home! ashley was able to come home with me too so I got to show her all of the exciting things to see in maryland and dc. ironically the day we flew home from rochester was the beginning of the biggest snowstorm maryland has had in three years (only 6 inches of snow) but still funny-- or annoying. eventually it warmed up and we were able to have 75 degree weather today!! too bad when we landed in rochester today it was 38 degrees, foggy and rainy. oh well.

this week included: two separate trips to chipotle, a Caps game at the verizon center with Amanda!, a day full of wandering around DC, a second trip to DC with dad, seeing jimmy (Alison's new adorable dog), visiting with Barb, Joe and Eric this weekend, mini golf and batting cages yesterday, Sarah's volleyball tournament this morning and other various fun things.
jimmy, alison's dog :)
mini golfing
tomorrow is the first day of spring quarter which means... new classes! i actually only have one class tomorrow so it shouldn't be too bad. class 9-12, work 12-4.
