you ask, i answer

Do you have hot water?

ANSWER: Yes! I have hot water back. I was taking a shower-- the COLDEST shower of my life and halfway through the hot water came back on.

Do you use any cookbooks when you cook? Where do you get your recipes

ANSWER: Nope, not really. Cookie recipes I generally follow directions but add my own twist. Dinner recipes are mostly made up in my head (based off stuff I've seen before, of course). Just whatever sounds good. Or whatever is in the fridge. Got a lot of sweet potatoes? Okay, so that's what's for dinner this week. Actually I don't keep sweet potatoes in the fridge. I occasionally get recipes from blogs I read, except I haven't made any of those things yet so that doesn't really count, it's on my to do list. If i'm really unsure about timing/how to do something I'll look on epicurious.

Wear pink - why don't they color the ice pink? Stay warm. I'm having difficulty doing that here.

ANSWER: That's a very good question, I'm disappointed in their lack of commitment to actually making the rink pink. Maybe next year.

Maybe you need a 2nd cast to come in and take over for a while? That always helps in ballet! x

ANSWER: That sounds like a brilliant idea, want to switch places for a while? I'm sure ABT wouldn't notice if I stepped into your roles and you came to RIT :)

Does the "bug" man have to come again, or, can you unpack all your colorful containers in the kitchen?

ANSWER: Yep, one more time. Next Monday the 8th. This should hopefully be the 3rd and last treatment. They'll be coming back a week later to check to make sure they are gone for sure. If they find another bug on that week check, we have to start treatments all over again :( Let's hope those bugs are gone for good!

By the way......how does it happen that you have a dog bed to sleep on? Do you have to sleep all curled up. Do you have an urge to
chew on bones, or shoes or books????

ANSWER: The "dog bed" is actually the cushion from my round chair. Worked out quite nicely, I did have to curl up a bit. I mean it's pretty much like just sleeping on the floor except with a 4 inch cushion in between. Not too bad for a week or two, not sure about longer than that. I can't say that I had any urge to chew on bones/shoes/books.

any other questions?

sundays are for cooking

roasted sweet potatoes with olive oil, basil, salt and pepper on top of some lettuce :)
goooddd brunch.

now time to work on some homework and video editing. got another photoshoot today. tonight's dinner is looking like the leftover half of sweet potato and some roasted asparagus. yummm.

ashley and i made cookies this week. we didn't have any chocolate chips so we improvised and added a crushed chocolate santa as well as a packet of hot chocolate powder. good alternatives. don't worry, we went out and stocked up on chocolate chips for our next cookie craving.

last night's hockey game was fun, unfortunately they lost 4-5 :( first home game loss of the season. completely packed game. we went to the tailgate around 4 and walked over to get in line around 5:30 which was apparently not early enough. i felt like we were being herded through the door so many people were there. good game, lots of cheering. some post game shenanigans. got back around 4 am and fell asleep until it was time for church this morning. fun weekends!

tomorrow mornig at 6 am is registration, i should probably figure out what all i'm taking before then.

freezing toes and red nose

so, i wake up to people clanging away on some pipes or something outside the apartment. LOUD clanging. and it has obnoxiously gone on for quite a while.

apparently we have no hot water?! haha go figure. i'm not even surprised by this stuff anymore. maybe this means i'll go over to the gym and take a shower? rather inconvenient because it's currently about 5 degrees outside. last night was seriously cold. i knew we were in for it weatherwise when last weekend was 50 degrees, that was just a little too good to be true. this week is looking COLD.

hockey game was excellent. rit won! 4-1 PLUS air force lost to army which means that rit is now # 1 in atlantic hockey :) another game tonight, it's make the rink pink! last night after the game we wandered over to the ritz sportszone for an invisible children fundraiser. the jack swift band played and free food was involved so what could be better?

week in review

let's see. so this week i...

- officially moved into the admissions office. in the past 2 weeks i have work 45 hours. roughly 35 of those since last friday. in fact, it's gotten to the point where the director of admissions has told me to get a life and go home. he first asked if i just wanted an office and to be on the full time staff. oh 9 hour work days.

- had the busiest monday in the history of mondays. seriously. that thing was epically long.

- missed an awesome performance by eric down in washington. i totally wish i was able to ninja my way down there to see it. got great reviews by Boobear Reviews Inc as well as other family members.

-sarah got an A on her math midterm. okay, so i admit that i had absolutely no doing in this matter. it was just cool, kay? yay boota! i'm still trying to find a way to one-up her 82 and then she goes and pulls this... making my life incredibly more difficult :)

-got an A on my art history test!! hooray for lots of studying finally paying off. guess there are As all around this week.

-spent my entire friday doing a photoshoot around campus with my friend casey for work stuff. more work.. yeah. but its fun!

- went to bruggers for grilled cheese and delicious tomato soup. i love friday lunch out rituals.

-went to bed at record early times. 10:30 and 10:45. YAY SLEEP.

and now for what i am doing this weekend.

HOCKEY HOCKEY HOCKEY.

tonight there is a game at 7 (we'll be there at 5:30 not to worry). tomorrow night there is another game with a tailgate before. its the make the rink pink hockey game so we will all be wearing pink!

sprinting

i

am

exhausted.

mentally. physically. in every way possible. is it week 10 already? this feels like midterm or finals week except it's not. it's like a hardcore sprint session.

all of the events of the weekend which allowed almost no downtime. into yesterday which was epically long and exhausting. didn't have a minute of free time between 7:30 am until I got back around 10:30. eating dinner at 11 is probably not a very good idea. today i had class from 8-1o am followed by work from 10 am until 7:30 pm. working on finishing up laundry, reading and finding my brain right now. second bug treatment tomorrow, woohoo get to wake up early and move everything all over again. which means that tomorrow after my 4 classes and work i get to do MORE laundry! how wonderful. and move everything back to it's place. i'd appreciate wearing some different clothes right now, the pickings are slim. the problem is i HAVE the clothes. more than enough actually. i just can't get to them!

i have 60 some more pages to read, some sketches, laundry and a poster design to finish up tonight before bed. i'm in major need of an hour long nap with nothing else to think about. maybe next week. oh and those wonderful fridays/weekends that i normally have to relax? go figure, i fill them up with millions of things to do.

just 5 more weeks of pushing it like this. i should go rescue my laundry for real. instead of just talking about it.

there's an app for that

busy weekend is almost over.

today was probably the best, mostly because i had the least amount of stuff to do (other than homework, of course). church this morning was good. especially when pierre started singing pants on the ground. after that came back and wrote a paper -- my second one this weekend-- and studied some for art history. around 2:30 i went over to sara's apartment to leave to go downtown. my small group has sort of paired up with another one that has previously "adopted" a refugee family in rochester. they visit them every sunday and hang out for a few hours and help out around the house. today i got to go! so much fun. the family has 5 boys and there were a bunch of neighbor boys over so the house was FULL. tons of energy! the communication is a little bit tough only because not all of them speak/understand english. i talked for a while with the oldest boy, he's so sweet and wanted to tell me all about his love of computers and information. and a song about girls? again, communication little rough. all of the boys range in age from 3 to 18 so it's a house full. we ate dinner with them, played some soccer, and watched them play video games. some of the boys knew how to play guitar so they sang for us. two social workers were there the whole time with us and helped the dad figure out the bus route so that he can start working. definitely can't wait to go back another sunday. oh yeah, there are pictures but i have to get them from someone else first.

tomorrow is busy from 9 am until 10 pm, literally every minute booked. art history test. photo critique. printing. work. 4 classes. small group. i'll be ready for bed after all of that :)

also, here's a story from cnn incase you didn't already see. crazy stuff.

raw

this weekend is looking BUSY. work from now until 12:30 or so, grocery shopping, basketball game, skate for a cause, friend shenanigans... all today. saturday looks like.. an art history review session, video planning for work and an ntid play at night for my ASL class. sunday is church and small group events in downtown rochester. ANDD.. fitting homework and cooking somewhere in between all of that. perhaps a few hours of sleep?
also, why do i keep posting super emo photos of my roommate? it's a photo project and i took 425 photos of her this week, no big deal. now for the editing of the photos, you're getting to see them in pretty much real time. i'm slow guys, real slow. raw-camera raw edit- jpg regular editing. what is that mumbo jumbo anyway? not really sure, i just click the buttons and they look pretty. i'll post the whole set of 10 at some point in time. and yes, this one is in fact in front of a dumpster. we got more than a few weird looks for that.
oh right right, i should do laundry this weekend too. after all i was boycotting it last week due to the fact that the week before i had to do four bajillion loads.
i should stop writing this immediately, my to do list is growing as i type.

lost and found

refreshing the caps score online, listening to music, watching the rangers/tampa bay game on TV, working on ASL homework, updating my blog and drinking some delicious tea [POMEGRANATE TEA! in a cow mug! if you have not previously tried it, you should. it's pink. and wonderful and delicious] that nana so kindly provided me with today :) multi-task much?

lately my life seems to be full of opportunities and pretty much the only thing i can do is say yes and hope that 24 hours turns out to be a lot more time than it looks like.

i'm learning that i can live with the bare minimum. 1 meal that lasts all week. only about 10 shirts in a box that's left in the kitchen. ironically just when everything else goes down to the bare minimum, we get internet. go figure. i need to figure out a day that i can just go totally without internet. it'd be good every once in a while but it's scary how attached i am to it.

got a bunch of catching up to do this weekend. well by catching up, i mean getting ahead. and if i can do so, the next few weeks should be less stressful. photoshoot to do. ASL performance to go to on thursday. work, ice skating, basketball game and skate for a cause on friday. art history review, work shenanigans and who knows what all else on saturday. church, small group event and homework on sunday. apparently i like being busy.

and now for a lost and found story from yesterday. our apartment is a messy kind of clean. i mean, we had to move EVERYTHING about 3 times in the span of a week so needless to say i don't really have much of a clue as to where everything might be hiding. usually on mondays i come back from my 5 pm class, eat a quick dinner, grab my bible for small group and head off to class. except.. i couldn't find it. my bible was seriously no where to be found and i was less than excited about this because class was starting soon and i had not left yet so i began to tear through bags. i had just seen the darn thing yesterday, it was on my bed in my room which has about 3 items in it so really? where in the world could it be. 10 minutes before class was supposed to start i decided that i should just leave and someone else at small group would have one to borrow before i had time to rummage through the rest of my belongings. i was less than pleased on my walk to class but figured everything would work out. ended up getting out of class 45 minutes early-- hooray for extra time to look around. i was talking to alison on my walk back and told her my whole story so she started running through places it could possibly be. "under the couch? in my bed? in the bathroom? in the fridge?" who in the world do you think i am alison... you?! :P just kidding. why would i put my bible in the fridge. apparently she lost a ring once and found it in the fridge. anyway, i couldn't find it anywhere and she was running out of ideas so goes "i dont know, just pray about it or something and you'll find it eventually this week" i was standing over near the fridge at this point and looked down into a box and there is was!! so while it was not IN the fridge, i found that kind of ironic.

so everything that has been lost was found and we're all good :) now off to call sarah because apparently she has something to tell me that can't wait? and then photoshoot with ashley as my model for my project!

compassion

didn't really make any fun food today. or at least none that looked particularly attractive. had refried beans with lettuce for dinner. honey nut cheerios for breakfast -- did you need a visual for that? they're kind of hard to picture, i know.

went to church this morning. got some homework done this afternoon. watched half a season of how i met your mother while this all was taking place (the homework part, not during church). finally finished a paper due tomorrow for deaf literature, after an unexpected 5 minute nap and much procrastination. i'm considering going to bed early. i like waking up early before everything is busy. not really the best plan on a day that i have stuff literally every moment but that's alright.

there is just a lot of indescribable stuff going on right now.

found a [blog] the other day thanks to a cnn highlight. it's a family that is living down in haiti and describing what all is going on. quite the gripping story and a huge leap of faith on their part. i spent a huge amount of time reading that and then all of the links it took me to. we had a speaker on friday at IV large group from an organization called [compassion international]. they played a video describing what they do and i can't get one of the images of the children out of my head. i want so badly to go and get them all. saw a bunch of orphans today on cnn as well (this is seriously bad for me, i should be banned from cnn). i'm going to end up with 500 children if i don't watch out. luckily i have the sense that i'm only 19 and that would not really be of any help to their situation right now. but really, who can watch those videos and NOT want to do something?

kay, that's about all of the links and stories i have for today. apparently time alone is both good and bad for me.

the day is brighter here with You, the night is lighter than its hue which leads me to believe You make everything glorious and I am Yours, what does that make me?
