Summer in Rochester

Summertime in Rochester is arguably one of the greatest things ever. We spend so much time here during the awfully cold months that it makes you look twice when Wegmans is seen selling things like sunflowers, they just look out of place.

Adventuring is a mandatory task that sometimes leads to bouncy ball searching (we refrained from releasing them all).



And nerf gun (sword?) fighting in the aisles.

But best of all there is the Rochester Public Market. Which is open year round but Oct-March offers little outside of the usual onion/potato/apple/insert your root veggie name here. In spring & summer (which feel quite similar up north) there are flowers! And fruits! And lots of tasty things.

Of course, there is the obligatory coffee stop. How else do you expect me to wander around for 3 hours?

Free samples help too. Especially when the apple seller handed us an entire apple to try... Along with the bread samples, vegan mango pudding, farro with tomato pesto and honey. So pretty much you can consume lunch for free if you wander for long enough.

Not to mention bringing home bucket loads of food all for under $25, who needs Wegmans anymore ;) (See the rhubarb mom?)

Three hours at the market spent wandering does leave one rather exhausted which calls for a little outside relaxation and book reading. And potentially more apple samples.

Skeeter on the Move

It seems as though there is never a minute of downtime anymore.

Thursday worked from 8:30 until 1:45, had class from 2-5, went out to dinner and class with Ashley until 8. After that came back and did homework and watched Grey's Anatomy before bed. 

Friday morning I had a meeting at 9 am, worked from 9:30 until 3pm, another meeting until 4, did some homework, went out to dinner at the Sportszone, hockey game until 9:30 then we went to a comedy night at the Ritz to watch Drake do stand up comedy until 12:30 (he won! and is going on to the finals in January). 

Saturday morning worked from 10 until 2pm, did some homework, got a quick dinner, went to another hockey game until 9:30, watched a movie until we fell asleep.

Woke up this morning and drove downtown to see the Holiday Market in Rochester, grabbed some coffee and bagels from a Dunkin Doughnuts downtown except we felt kind of uncomfortable in that sketchy part of town so we drove to the mall to eat our breakfast/lunch. Walked around the mall and did some Christmas shopping and now we're back here! Ashley's taking a nap while I work on a little bit of homework and then I think we're making a gingerbread house in the lounge before dinner and more homework. We also have some floor holiday shenanigans at 9:30 tonight. 

It just never ends! Good thing it's all fun. I still have a few projects to finish/start on tonight before classes from 8 until 5 tomorrow. This week doesn't look too bad, we have a holiday luncheon thing for work on Wednesday that I'm probably going to. I think Ashley and I are doing some birthday/christmas something or other on Wednesday night. Working most of the day Thursday, two classes and then I get to fly home super early Friday morning!!! 

Speaking of nothing... You know you're used to cold weather when you walk outside in just a sweatshirt and remark about how warm it feels... when it's 38 degrees outside! haha Ashley and I agreed that today felt like summer, we didn't even need winter coats! 

Apples, Peppers and... Raw Fish Heads?

Went to the Public Market today with Ashley. It's about a 20 minute drive from campus in the heart --aka, sketchy part-- of downtown Rochester. Aside from the pouring rain and lack of parking spots it was pretty awesome and we definitely plan on going back. Everything there is ridiculously cheap yet really good looking... aside from the fish heads. They have it set up under two huge covered buildings and vendors line up with their food, clothing, etc. If I had more cash on me, I probably would have gotten more. I did get a whole basket of apples (about 10 of them) for 2 dollars, can't find that in a grocery store huh?? (Sorry Mom if I made you jealous =) ) Also got another winter hat for 5 bucks... it's super cute and I'd post a picture but i'm too lazy, maybe later! From the market we went to the marketplace mall which is about 5 minutes from campus. Ashley needed boots, jeans and some other stuff and I needed some stuff for my 3d design project. We also met up with Greg and John to look at halloween costumes but then decided we're not even going to be going to any parties on halloween so there's no point.




Just got back from dinner with Drake, Greg, John and Ash.. they're headed off to some haunted house later tonight (while I work on my stupid research paper) and then I think we're all meeting up to go to a comedian around 11. Tomorrow's forcast is: homework. Speaking of forecast... look at the next week. Yuck.
