RIT Hockey Wins AHA Championships!

The RIT men's hockey team took on Sacred Heart for the Atlantic Hockey Championship game! This was a huge game because they have always lost in the semi final game the night before. This time, however, was different. Much different. They beat Canisius last night in a shut out 4-0 and advanced to the final game (which was tonight) and won 6-1!!

We went all out and did a tailgate in the parking lot about 3 hours before the doors even opened for the game. It was pretty chilly but we were so pumped for the game it didn't really matter. Everyone was blasting our usual pre-game pump up music which most importantly includes Let It Rock.

The Tigers played really, really well and all of the fans were cheering VERY loudly! I sat in the corner crew like usual. During the last 5 minutes of the 3rd period we ran through absolutely every cheer that existed since it would be the seniors last time.

The win tonight means that they get an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament which they have never played in before! We're already talking about getting car rides together to head to the first game which will be next weekend :)

Dr. Destler even came to the game and we asked to take a picture with him :)

After the game got out we all went and had a dance party in the parking lot!!

don't judge a day by it's cover

wednesday night started out like any other night. got into bed around 11:30, granted i did have some problems falling asleep so i didn't fully fall asleep until after 12:30.

slept for one solid hour, no problems.

then the phone rang. 585-475...? looked familiar but at 1:30 in the morning nothing really makes a lot of sense. then i got one text message.. then another... "take cover, possible armed suicidal person on campus. go into nearest room. lock or barricade the door. follow instructions from authorites"

okay, i'm awake now.

barricade my door?? is that supposed to bring a sense of comfort to the situation? riverknoll is basically as thin as cardboard so i'm pretty sure barricading would do nothing helpful. regardless, ashley checked to make sure the door was in fact locked and we remained awake contemplating what in the world was going on. around 2:00 we get another two texts and two phone calls from the emergency alert people saying all clear. except people had run rampant on social media sites already. facebook was claiming two dead in colony manor an apartment complex on campus. some other people claimed that there was a person overdosing in another apartment complex. and twitter was talking about tazers. quite frankly we had absolutely no clue what was going on. no sirens to be heard except then pictures started coming out online. sol 7... surprisingly close to the sol 6 floor i lived on last year. apparently two guys were drunk, one was potentially suicidal.. the cops or someone received a phone call alerting them of this so they came, complete with a SWAT team, ambulance and millions of cops. some guy ended up getting tazed. that's about as much of the situation that i currently know. the rochester democrat and chronicle posted some stuff as did wham-13 news.

finally fell back asleep around 3:15 or 3:30. accidentally slept through my alarm at 6:30 for my 8 am class and fortunately at least i woke up at 7:30 and managed to throw on some clothes and make it to class by 8:00.

that class was a disaster because i was already in a bad mood from not getting much sleep plus the flash application that i was working with crashed not one but seven times without saving my work. go figure.

art history, went to work for an hour or so, stepped in a huge muddy field and got my shoe stuck. you know how those days go.

yesterday also happens to be one of my favorite holidays. i think the list looks something like: thanksgiving, fat tuesday, st patricks day... okay, i realize it's a little weird because i'm not irish and i'm not into the partying aspects of the holiday but i just really like green. after class got out around 6, it was so nice that we decided to get sandwiches & shamrock shakes and eat them outside! we ended up driving to the mall in pittsford after that and wandered around looking for orange pants and shoes for the hockey game. no luck but it was fun anyway :)

now, after quite possibly the longest, most dragged out, week of my life.. it's thursday!! which means volleyball in an hour and work tomorrow then i'm DONE! there is a hockey game tomorrow night at 4:05 pm which i'm super excited for. it's downtown at the blue cross arena and should be a great game! i think we're looking at going out to dinner afterwards and then there is another hockey game on saturday if they win on friday so i should probably get my homework done tonight, huh? :) busy weekend!

unexpected

life is full of unexpected surprises.
i guess it wouldn't be a surprise if it was expected :)

this morning 10 people showed up for class (normally supposed to have around 20). 9 were guys + me. hooray rit ratio. okay, that wasn't a surprise just an observation about today.

fantastic weather <-- surprise... i just wore short sleeves today and i was BURNING. love the sun & the longer hours of light!

made green cupcakes with green icing for small group tonight in honor of st patricks day which is tomorrow!

got some of a storyboard finished for my animation/flash class.

at work today i took 20 or so trips up and down the stairs fetching various odds and ends. plus i got to roll around on the floor and vacuum little tiny places and fabreeze the place <-- the good stuff!

also, does anyone feel like this week is going superrrrrrr slowwwwwwww. oh my goodness how is it only tuesday night. not to worry, i have plenty of things to fill my time with im just surprised because usually when i'm busy time goes by quickly.

now time for a shower & bed. my 10 pm bedtime failed tonight because of small group but that's okay :)

going through the motions

three blogs means less posts on each.

school is picking up.
lots of animation video editing in the near future.
hockey finals are this weekend.
it's admissions acceptance season which means lots of work, open houses, tours and chat sessions.

as of this morning the bug people came and installed that little box again. huge sadface. definitely not what i was looking forward to.

i still need to figure out what all i am doing this summer it's going to end up being a lot of piecing things together. anyone have any good ideas?

these two songs along with "City on Our Knees" by Toby Mac (which did not let me embed the video) have been on repeat for the past few days.

i'm not entirely sure why i am currently incapable of writing a full coherent blog post. i'll work on that and get back to you.

springtime in march!

it is SO nice outside. like ridiculously nice. sunny. bright blue skies. SIXTY DEGREES.

and it's MARCH!

i'm loving it.

on top of all of that wonderfulness, i had a 2 hour class this morning at 8 am which i really like! plus i gave a tour and played volleyball for an hour and a half :) got my laundry done, finished all of my reading for the weekend aside from art history and finished pretty much all of my mandatory homework. of course, there are always things to get ahead on but for now i will be fully enjoying my weekend.

working tomorrow morning at eightttt in the morning. i never thought i'd find myself actually enjoying that hour. i'm going to enjoy it even more after day light savings and we jump forward an hour. nice and sunny! i really like wandering around the campus that early and i much prefer being done at either 6 pm on mondays and wednesday, 4 pm on tuesday and 2 pm on thursdays!! totally worth the early classes. i think i pay attention better in the mornings too. by mid afternoon i want to be outta there. good thing i like it because i have an eight am from tuesday until friday :) that's a whole lot of early.

i think this nice weather makes me nutty.

lowercase we go

just kidding, back to lowercase we go.

i've opened a new blog! which by no means will take over this one as this serves as a family wide email of sorts. the new one i'm using for my new editing and PR writing class. hopefully it will also carry over into something i can use on a resume or something slightly more professional looking than "shenanigans"

plus where else do i get to ramble about the distressing look of comic sans or poorly designed hotel style type on building signs?

http://calltheserif.wordpress.com/

you can go check it out if you wish. only has one post to it's name but i'm just starting it so give me some time :)

Capital Letters and Garlic Presses

Months ago, I acquired a garlic press in my abundance of new kitchen supplies for an apartment. Said garlic press has remained untouched. Perhaps due to the lack of garlic or maybe because I just never think to purchase such a thing. Regardless, it has been used! It's actually quite the invention. Unlike the one from home it is all attached which makes for fantastically easy dish washing. Oh right and I did not just consume garlic for dinner, it had a purpose. A purpose to make greek rice infinitely more delicious! Try adding rice, frozen veggies, lemon juice, basil, feta, garbanzo beans and salt/pepper into a pot. You can't really go wrong with all of those.

Right, right: Day one. We're back at it. Spring quarter has begun and thankfully the sun decided to cooperate! It's always weird starting a new quarter, I feel like it's high school all over again. Time to sharpen your pencils and put out your backpack the night before. I had four classes today: time based design, survey of western art, american sign language 2, and PR writing. All seem like good classes, the biggest thing I noticed in all of them is the shear amount of work! My schedule book is freaking out already. It's just going to take a little organization, time management and an additional 36 hours to each day!

I'm not quite sure if you've noticed but I rarely use capital letters to begin sentences. Never. No sir, not for me. However, I am taking not one but two classes this quarter (News Editing and Public Relations Writing) that require that I keep both a blog and a twitter. Sounds easy? It is. Mostly because I've had one for the past 4 or so years. Over the next two weeks I'm going to make it my goal to write like a normal human being with proper punctuation and everything because from here on out it might actually count as a grade. It might not really change the content too much but we'll see. If I come up with some fantastic new idea for a blog, I'll switch to another forum but from here on out capital letters here we come!

oodles of noodles

just got back in to Rochester today around 2. woke up early to go to sarah's volleyball tournament this morning. had the bumpiest landing ever, for some strange reason we flew all the way up part way over lake ontario and then circled around while randomly dropping losing speed and then speeding up and going higher it was so strange but made me so thankful when we finally touched down. the cab ride home was hilarious and so worth the 20 bucks. this guy was quite the chatter and apparently had no idea what "the internet" was so i got to explain that all to him. he didn't understand the concept that you could look up absolutely anything and find out about it. he kept asking if he could learn about coins on "the internet". he thanked me profusely for teaching him about this and asked if he could pay money and take a class about the internet.

got in and unpacked. got some groceries, bought all of my books for the quarter.. about 5 million dollars worth of them. but at least that's all taken care of. now just time for some relaxing and getting ready for classes starting tomorrow!!

i have this ring which i found who knows where about 4 years ago has gone missing. i play with it on my finger all of the time and it has never once gotten lost but it has recently gotten much larger, or my finger much smaller? hopefully it turns up sometime soon :) i'm not too worried about it just kind of funny that it took 4 years to loose. my finger kind of feels funky without it.

and i'm continuing to postpone this spring break post.. tonight perhaps??
