try it all

this is what my life looks like currently. huge spreads of logos/symbols that i haven't decided on. luckily they are both due within the next week so we can move on to bigger and better thing.
the thing i like about graphic design is there is no one right answer. which means i get to try things. lots of things. in multiple colors, shapes, weights, etc. it's fantastic. and time consuming.
i'll post the final symbols when i'm done.
anyone need a logo?
artist series: ryan kapp

Ran across these the other day, they're absolutely fantastic! The artist is Ryan Kapp. Check out his website for other cool stuff as well.

two hours on the erie canal
last weekend i went on an erie canal boat tour for sara's bachlorette party (and today is the wedding!).
it was quite fantastic.

afterwards we wandered around pittsford down by the canal and went to a new cupcake place that just opened :)

and they say it snows in october...
in true rochester fashion the day that i choose to run outdoors, wrongfully assuming that i will be able to enjoy the cool weather.. it is NINETY DEGREES.

yes, 90. nine zero.
it was hot and not too enjoyable. especially because our campus is currently overrun with construction men.
but it sure looks nice, right? wanna come visit?
(that's my apartment, the green one in the way back.)
and no, i did not run around with a camera in hand. i wandered around and through campus to building 7 to check one out for the weekend :)
i am also currently realizing that it is only 10:50 in the morning and I've already woken up, went out to breakfast with a friend, done some errands and gotten around campus. this is proving well for the rest of the weekend... let's hope.
two big projects due soon, i'll post picture when i'm close to done.
this weekend is: open house for admissions, sara's wedding tomorrow, church on sunday, meeting on sunday night. hooray for being busy!
next week is my last cake decorating class! after that i'm going pro.

sorry guys
...i've been busy.

starting a new job.
and decorating cakes.

and capturing sunsets

and meeting famous people!
and listening to their lectures! (that's massimo vignelli in the front!)

and getting their autographs! (michael bieruts autograph!)

goodness gracious i picked the right major. picture: little kid in a candy store. except substitute bodoni, Helvetica and futura for the candy.
right now my schedule looks like this:

but that's alright because sleep is unnecessary when you're meeting famous designers. and there are 24 whole hours on sundays which are always good for homeworking.
can you believe it's only week TWO?!
yeah, me neither.

Catching up
It's week two and I feel like i've already been here for a million weeks.
Trying to fall into some semblance of a routine. Somedays work better than others. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are very busy.
This weekend included an IV meeting, cupcake after party, working from 9 am to 5:30 pm on Saturday for admissions helping with interviews, working on a group project for week three, going out to Moe's for dinner, and finally coming back to realize that the entire campus had lost power. Good news. Sunday was church, grocery shopping, cooking squash, homework and an IV meeting.
In summary, it was a busy weekend.
This week includes starting a new type of job (same place different things), another cake decorating class! and potentially some downtown wandering.
Also, lots and lots of Vignelli. Massimo Vignelli & his wife donated tons of money to RIT to build part of the new art building that went up this past year. The offical opening of that is this week so tonight I get to go learn how to give a tour of that and potentially meet some famous designers.
And a good story....
Yesterday was 9 am -6 pm straight with classes, work and no breaks so by around 4 pm I had a teensy bit of a headache and I was in need of advil or coffee whichever was closer. On my way to my 4 pm class I pass The College Grind-- which meant my answer was coffee! I asked the guy for some iced coffee thing they had and he goes "wow, i can't believe you like coffee that sweet" except i don't really, I just had no idea what that was. So he asked if he could make me a coffee surprise. My goodness that thing was delicious. I have no idea what all went in it but I went back after class to tell him how good it was and he was not there. Maybe next Monday?
