sundayyyy

I have an addiction problem.

I have a recently discovered addiction to hot beverages. Hot chocolate, Chai Tea, Chai Lattes, Tea, you name it, i'll drink it. It's bad guys, my day is made better by a cup of tea. Before class, during work, late at night. Is this something to be worried about? We have an entire cabinet dedicated to hot beverage mixes. Thursday night we went out and I got a tea bag sample thing. Most exciting thing ever because now I have CHOICES! Green tea, lemon tea, earl grey (that was today's flavor). I'll try to control myself.

Nothing too bad has gone on today. Last night was HOCKEYYYYY! RIT won 3 - 0 and the Caps won 8 -1. I was only at the RIT game though. After that we went over to our friend's apt to watch The Hangover and make cookies! Which actually were not cookies because we messed up so it turned out like a cake instead but still tasty! Came back around 1:30 or whatever and found that the hall outside of our apartment smelled really strongly of alcohol (like seriously, i cannot breathe through my nose and I could smell it) plus there were empty beer bottles on the stairs. Oh college. Went to bed and woke up this morning to the lovely sound of the fire alarm! Fifth time this year. Luckily it was a warm 8 degrees outside (up from the -1 it was last night) so it wasn't too bad. Came back in and after another 10 minutes another alarm went off. We didn't even bother leaving the second time.

butttttt (haha butt lol potty jokes im mature) were going to go watch a movie and be goofy.

note: it has seriously taken me all day to write this post ive been so add

survey the damage

I have a good idea!

let's pack up and move everything out of our apartment on a thursday night. sound good?

thought so. after all of those shenanigans we could not possibly think of anything else that would one up our night so we went to bed. woke up this morning around 8 and went to get my h1n1 shot at the field house. met up with ashley for lunch at the SAU and then we walked over to go ice skating.. except it was closed haha OF COURSE! i should have guessed! how stupid of me to assume that we'd go a whole day with no more complications.

BUT

good news! we're officially hopping on the internet bandwagon next Tuesday. i'm pretty excited. we decided that this is a good christmas present to ourselves. and one that keeps on giving because now we will actually have to do "the bill" every month. we're just pretending to be more grown up. secretly we just eat cereal for dinner and dance around in our pjs everytime it snows so that's not working out too well.

anyway, here's some photo evidence of the destruction of last night... (it does look a lot emptier now but i didn't bother to take anymore pictures yet)

the only thing that is making this a faulty plan is that i have no idea where ANYTHING is. seriously. i went to get dressed this morning. pants in one room. shirts in a box. underwear is in a laundry bag in the kitchen (because that's a logical place for it, duh) my keys were under a piece of paper on the table (which had me convinced that i had lost those too or at least packed them up in the car). shoes are here and there. it's an excellent set up really. i'm going to need post it notes with locations on them. good thing ashley is around she remembered me putting the keys on the table so that saved some digging.

make shift bedding. ashley slept on the couch and i slept on the dog bed (which was, in case you were wondering, quite comfortable)

why yes, i would enjoy packing up everything i own into trash bags

let's do laundry just for fun! using clean clothes.

picked out a few shirts for the next month or so... if you see me wearing the same thing more than once a week. don't judge. just know i'm doing laundry daily so chances are it's probably clean!

today doesn't seem to be going too horribly so far. but i won't speak too soon, it's only 3:45 ;)

nothing to do but laugh

not to sound over dramatic...

but finding the correct words to describe today is seriously hard.

let's start with how this quarter is going thus far.

came back from break december 1st and started the 1st three weeks of winter quarter. had a few fire drills that lasted unexplainably long amounts of time. couldn't get our heat working (thankfully this was just a fluke and now it's raging hot in here...) then my camera decided to stop working right before a project was due.

then we left for break. everything was fine and dandy. okay that's enough of the backstory... moving on today.

i've been sick for the past 2 days, nothing life threatening just a cold with lovely swollen glands and a super runny nose. nothing i can't deal with. anyway, for the past week i've been having big problem sleeping. i think i've been averaging 3 to 4 hours a night. last night i got to sleep around 2 finally and had to wake up at 6:10 to make it to class. i was feeling totally yucky so i pushed snooze for 40 minutes and finally decided to suck it up and go to class. i was SO close to just falling back asleep but then realized i'd have to wake up in an hour anyway for work so it wasn't worth it. walked the 30 minutes to class (yep, on the other side of campus) seriously though i don't even mind walking. i actually enjoy the time to myself. except it was like 10 degrees and snowing and i forgot my gloves but even so it didn't feel all that cold. i get to class around 7:55 and sit down and there are only 2 other people in the room. it was super weird and we were all looking at each other and soon ennough one of the guys goes "oh! class is cancelled" she just emailed. YES thanks... for informing me ten minutes INTO my walk to class. fantastic. whatever, i went to work and worked from 8 am until 2. getting out two hours early was actually kind of nice. despite the fact my head felt like it was going to explode but i brought tea today so everything was good. for now.

i came back from work and laid down on my bed to check email for probably no more than 5 minutes before i hear the doorbell ring and it's a guy from housing. okay this is the part i have not mentioned before... we've been having bug bite problems so we emailed housing.. oddly enough they actually showed up --this couldn't happen during fire alarms? idk. the guy came in and looked at the window (where we had 2 dead bugs stored for their viewing pleasure) and immediately goes okay do you want the good news or the bad news. good news is, you offically have bugs of the bed variety. bad news, you have to move almost everything out of your apartment and wash every single piece of clothing, towel, sheet, bag, bedding material, pillow, book, backpack, lamp, couch, etc you have. and we have to continue washing the bedding every 1 to 2 days. i have CLASSES every 1 to 2 days. the entire point of asking for underwear for christmas was to avoid going laundry for a longer span of time go figure...

guess what fun we did tonight?!

well, we went to walmart and bought plastic covers for the mattresses for post-fumigation on wednesday. and then we came back and proceeded to move all of our clothing out of the closets, dressers, and boxes and bag it up. we then packed up almost everything in ashley's car. how it all fits, we will never have any idea. then we threw everything else into the laundry to be cleaned, dried and bagged. and then vacuumed (that was the fun part of tonight).

come tuesday night we have to move every piece of furniture a foot away from the wall and take out everything else.

wednesday we have to be out of the apartment all morning/part of the afternoon so they can come in.

bed bugs, are not caused by us being dirty. he said it actually has nothing to do with us other. most likely they came through the walls or something. which makes me feel better because ashley and i felt like complete dirt bags. we've decided against telling anyone... other than the few people that read this blog. it's just kind of nasty to think about.

okay so more bad news, we can come back in on wednesday night but we basically cant put all of our stuff back until after winter quarter because they have to re-treat it every 14 days until then. so i'm just going to wear the same shirt until then. sounds good? just kidding i left a few out (we're not supposed to access the rest..) oh yes, and we're supposed to be sleeping in the living room on the couch/chair that'll be quite the adventure.

BUT WE'RE NOT DONE!!!

the icing on the cake...

we get back from doing laundry and putting everything in her car and ashley gets a phone call from me... weird because i'm standing right next to her without my phone.... turns out i had apparently dropped it while walking to the laundry room and someone had picked it up and chosen to call her. he agreed to come bring it over and i'm pretty sure he thought i was a basket case because i told him he was the most awesome person ever and he had no idea how much that helped.

oh and next week is MIDTERM week. let's add MORE to the current stress level why don't we! sounds fun!

despite all of these shenanigans i'm trying to find some good. little. but some.

ironically this monday in bible study we were studying John and it was talking about how God sometimes gives us things that seem absolutely impossible. like a serious sickness or death or MOVING EVERYTHING OUT OF YOUR APARTMENT! just to remind you that He is there and that something good will come out of every situation even if we don't realize it at the time or that we'll learn something that we needed to. seems kind of funny that we read it the exact week that i needed to hear that! just reminds you that nothing is too much it is just sometimes not the exact outcome you were hoping for.

patience is definitely needed right now. ashley and i have been laughing so hard tonight that we started crying from the laughter. it all went from annoying to angering to downright hilarious.

ashley and i agreed that if we were to ever start drinking today would be the day. just kidding but still we're about up to our ears in bad news bears.

oh goodness.

so, that's what i'm up to. how about you!?

ooohh weee oooh ahh ahh

ping pang walla walla bing bang...

poster design for a typography project due today.

it snowed.

and snowed and snowed.

and didn't show signs of stopping for 15+ days. good news though, it's supposed to get up to 30 degrees one day next week. my boots are getting quite a lot of use (thanks mom!) and my coats.. and scarves.. and gloves.. and my cow mug that holds my tea and hot chocolate.

more good news, i slept through the night! i feel like a baby! but i woke up this morning well rested and ready well before my alarm even went off. okay not entirely well rested but we're getting there.

i walked all over creation today. from the apartment --> printers --> building 7 ---> building 6 --> apartment --> ice rink --> building 7 --> another class in building 7 --> apartment --> building 7 --> apartment... phew! got my exercise in for today. ice skating made my legs all wobbly it was weird getting back to it after 2 weeks. PLUS they decided to skate in a clockwise direction today which totally through me off. oh oh speaking of hockey, my friend gave me a green capitals hockey shirt today!! so now i'm officially a caps fan not that it was in doubt before but for real this time.

time for my post class hot chocolate and maybe reading a design book i got from the library while i snuggle up in my clean cozy sheets in our newly vacuumed room. sounds good, doesn't it? i thought so too.

din din

mmm looks tasty? i think so.

maybe i should quit and go into food photography...

no, no. i'd have to live in a cardboard box.

we'll just continue on with this graphic design nonsense.

this was dinner tonight --and last night too for that matter. i made rice and pinto beans yesterday after class and then had soybeans for dessert (yummyyy) so tonight i decided to be radical and eat them all together. plus broccoli of course because who doesn't like broccoli? if you answered no, we can't be friends.

ooh and good news there are still enough beans and rice left for at least another 3-4 meals! what fantastic planning on my part.

got some projects to tackle. finished up my typography poster design thingamabob. working on editing some photos now. more stuff to do after. we're hoping for a full night of sleep tonight -- so did not happen last night. i washed my pillows, sheets, comforter and quilt tonight so they are all sweet smelling and still a tad warm. maybe that will help?

ps: snow update-- ITS STILL SNOWING. in fact, it has not stopped since saturday. and we're not talking like a 2 flake an hour type of nonsense. real snow guys.

twinkly lights & snow plows

i think i got a combined total of about 2 hours of sleep last night. between it taking me a million hours to fall asleep, waking up every 30 minutes for no apparent reason and the snow plow outside our window which thought that 3 am was an appropriate time to slam around and make loud noises for an extended period of time.

last night my plane was delayed by 35 minutes or so which ended up working out just fine. the plane ride was seriously cool. nighttime + blizzarding snow + city lights = seriously cool. not to mention my ipod was dead so i listened to the soundtrack from star trek for the entire hour on the inflight radio. the coolest part was flying over rochester and seeing all of the streets with the plows going up and down. ash picked me up at the airport and i spent the rest of the night unpacking and catching up.

despite all of that nonsense last night, i was up and ready for class with a good hour to spare. already finished deaf lit, next is survey of western art, typography and photo then small group & homework. busy first day back. ashley and i decided on the walk over to class that our time would be much better spent if we turned around, got back in pjs and watched movies and played in the snow all day. luckily we have some common sense so we kept walking to class.

airports

Apparently flying out of BWI at odd hours is the way to go because I got through security at record breaking speed. In fact, I pulled a Shrek and ducked under some of those stupid line dividers (I only got a few weird looks). I didn’t even have enough time to pull out my boarding pass and ID – the TSA lady was less than pleased and shouted out a reminder (to the line of no one) to remember to have them ready. I would have if they had given me a longer line!

I’ve also discovered that airports are the way to get massloads of homework done. Maybe it’s because I have a good hour and a half to spare and no internet.....

wait hold it...

I just realized that I get free wi-fi so I can post this real-time! I guess the airport teamed up with google or someone to provide free internet through January 15th for the heavy travel season. Smart thinking guys.

but anyway I got all of my typography homework done and I even have time to write a blog post. And maybe play the sims (yes, mom, it did get packed after all. No, I won’t play it everyday. Ill show a little restraint, maybe back to 5 hours a day? Just kidding J)

the world keeps spinning on

Gone, like yeterday is gone,
Like history is gone,
The world keeps spinning on,
Your going going gone,
Like
summer winter break is gone,
Like saturday is gone
[Switchfoot -- Gone]

Last day of winter break. Am I ready to wake up at 8 am tomorrow and have a million hours of class? Nope, not quite at all. But it always manages to pull together last minute. Flight at 9 something pm tonight, getting in around 10:30. Then grocery shopping and unpacking and homework pulling together and catching up. Regular week; classes and work, hockey game at the end.

It's currently 25 degrees in MD and 10 in Rochester with snow as far as the eye can see. Oops, just kidding apparently it's going to be sunny and 15 degrees on Friday.

This blog everyday of the new year thing might end today because tomorrow classes are from 10 am until 8 pm with small group from 8-10pm. We'll see, no promises though.

sneak peek at my photo project numero three.

okay, you win.

...for this year anyway.

the big dilemma this year appeared to be how to create glasses that incorporated 2010 and allowed wearer to avoid large obstacles. with a clever use of the nose bridge they seemed to have done the trick. however, what about 2011? one large 0 for both eyes leaving the 11 hanging out on the edge? isn't that rather awkward and cyclops like?

good thing manufacturing companies have a full 364 days left to debate this.

side note: i did not lose any sleep over this predicament. just a random thought.

also, i decided last night that life would be immensely more satisfying if it had a soundtrack and a voice over. maybe this years goal is to determine the soundtrack. the voice over is already thoughtfully played out by the voices in my head... just kidding!

oh, it's you again.

dear 2010,

you seemed to come without warning, allowing me almost no time to formulate any resolutions. i suddenly realized that with 39 minutes remaining on the first day of this new decade that my time for reflection was quickly draining. thanks a lot, next year can I have a good 3 day warning? but that's not the case. resolutions, who needs them? we'd all wake up after the new-years-feel-good-honeymoon-period is over and realize that it was, in fact, not possible to spend 36 hours a week working out, eating only green beans for a month or sleeping a full 10 hours on a school night. so why set ourselves up for that guilt. nope, we're starting from square one. absolutely nothing. clean slate.

so with that i say, bring it on. let's see what you have in store this year.

sincerely,
m

ps: how would you like me to refer to you informally? 2010? twenty ten? '010? '10?
